Beeswax
Beeswax has been in use since 2500 BC and there are over 1000 uses for beeswax today. Now there are more for pyrotechnics. Instead of using petroleum based products such as Vaseline, paraffin, or mineral oil, beeswax is the answer and I feel far superior for whistle mix and treating clay for pressing nozzles. Besides it's waterproofing property, beeswax can be stored for a long, long time as it is almost indestructible, other animals don't like to eat bees wax and it doesn't mold or disintegrate. It's natural, nontoxic, versatile and made by Midwest American bees. I am sure that once you try some beeswax, you'll be hooked like me.Use 2.75% to 3% for whistle mix and .005% (1/2%) for treating fire clay to eliminate dust and easy removal of the spindle without chipping. So one ounce will treat 12 lb. of clay or 2 lb. of whistle mix.
